President Hotel → Imjingak Park → The Unification Bridge → ID Check → DMZ theater and exhibition hall → The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel → Dora Observatory → President Hotel
  1. info_photo_38_2.jpg The President Hotel has two advantages that will make your stay in Seoul more enjoyable - comfort and convenience. The hotel is located in the heart of the downtown' City Hall area' Seoul's vibrant centre for business. Convenient transportation is available through the hotel's shuttle service and through the city's extensive public transportation system. These provide quick access to downtown offices and shops. Inchon International airport is 1 hour 50 minutes away by car and a shorter time by subway). Duksu Palace and the National Museum are accessible in a 10~20 minute walk- Address : 188-3' 1 Ga' Eulji-ro' Jung-gu' Seoul' Korea- Homepage : www.hotelpresident.co.kr- Tel : +82-2-753-3131 - Fax: +82-2-752-7417
  2. 임진각3.jpg Imjingak, located 7 km from the Military Demarcation Line, is now at the forefront of tourism related to the Korean War. It was built in 1972 with the hope that someday unification would be possible. Three-storied Imjingak is surrounded by several monuments, Unification Park and North Korea Center. 400 kinds of photos and documents showing the stark reality of North Korea are displayed in the North Korea Center of Unification Board. Outside Imjingak, there are 12 kinds of tanks and crafts on display that were used during the war. Mangbaedan Alter, which stands opposite of Imjingak, is famous for the place where people from North Korea visit and perform ancestral rites by bowing toward their hometown every New Years Day and Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving). The Bridge of the Freedom, South Koreans crossed when they came back to their mother country from North Korea, stands behind Mangbaedan Alter. In front of Imjingak is the Gyeongui Train Line which was destroyed during the Korean War in 1950. It has been under construction since 2000. Every year many events for unification are held at Imjingak. Imjingak is now one of the famous tourist spots for foreigners in Gyeonggi-do because it is possible to visit without going through any security check points
  3. 통일대교2.jpg The bridge is more like a symbolic bridge built back in 1998, wishing unification between two Koreas. It was built by Hyundai Business Group of South Korea. Underneath the bridge you can see a river which is called Imjingang, coming down from North Korea. The bridge also has a nickname which is the “Cow Bridge”. The founder of Hyundai whose name was Jung Juyoung crossed this bridge and went to North Korea back in 1998 with precisely 1,001 cows. Since then, we have been calling it the cow bridge. Of course all the cows he took with him were part of humanitarian donations for North Korean people.
  4. info_photo_1229_1.jpg If you look outside, you can see some soldiers wearing a green color camouflage uniform. They are South Korean soldiers or ROK soldiers currently serving their mandatory military service for 21 months. All men in South Korea have to serve the military mandatorily for 21 months, but it’s not required for women. I also served for 26 months a long time ago right after college, and it was longer than right now. Military service is getting shorter and shorter. However, the situation is a lot more terrible in North Korea. First of all, it’s mandatory for both genders, men and women. Men have to serve for 10 years while women serve for 7 years, but this is just for normal kinds of soldiers. For a special forces like Marine Corps and Airborne, they have to serve for 13 years.
  5. info_photo_1100_1.jpg It’s a unique museum within the civilian control line. The museum, on which the nation and provinces had spent 44.5 billion Korean won, officially opened on 08, 14, 2009. DMZ Showroom displays leaflets used during the 6.25 Korean Civil War, military letters, bayonets, empty cartridges, pottery found in DMZ, taxidermied birds and etc. DMZ Video Room features three-dimensional moving pictures. By watching them, you can easily understand how Korea got divided.
  6. 제2땅굴2.PNG The highlight of the DMZ tour is to explore a tunnel dug by North Korea. Since 1974, South Army has discovered four tunnels crossing the MDL. The tunnels are believed to have been planned as a military invasion or infiltration route. Each tunnel is large enough to enable the passage of thirty thousand soldiers in one hour. The 3rd tunnel discovered in 1978 penetrates into South Korea by 435 meters beyond the ceasefire line. You are going to hear how the tunnel was discovered with more detailed information. After listening to the story, you will enter into the actual tunnel to find the ambition of North Korea to make another sudden invasion. In addition, you are going to watch a short documentary film at the DMZ theater, and look around relics and reproductions of Korean War at its small exhibition hall.
  7. 도라전망대.jpg Dora Observatory, or OP Dora is the closest observation post to North Korea. From the observation platform, North Korean scenery is visible, and so are the outskirts of Gaeseong City, the 3rd largest city of North Korea. Especially, you can view the Gaeseong Industrial Complex operated by both Koreas. If you use the binocular, a statute of Kim Il-sung can be found near the Gaeseong City. You can also observe a fake North Korean border village. Within DMZ of North side, there’s a small village called “Propaganda Village.” On a clear day, you can view through binocular that it is actually a deserted town. Like a multi-million dollar Hollywood filming set, some lights flicker on and off at set times to create the illusion of people living there.

Excellent tour overall. Our guide was very informative. My only suggestion would be to tell us more about some of the sites we visited like, for example, the National Memorial for Abductees during the Korean War that I found on my own without the help of the guide.

This was a great trip and I would recommend getting the option with the talk. we learnt so much and it was very informative. I would have given five stars for everything except that two stops at the end were just shopping stops, especially for the amethyst factory - we didn’t see anything apart from a jewestore and it added time to the trip which could have been spent at the DMZ. the guide was great, but the last stop soured the experience for me.

I had a really amazing experience. SP ( the guide) was very passionate about the tour and took time to explain and answer any questions we had. The interview with the refugee from the North really helped to give me an insight of what life is like for people on the other side and appreciate the time she spent with us and sharing her life story. thank you very much for the tour and definitely recommend it❤️????

This was an excellent, informative, and interesting tour. The guide Han was excellent and very knowledgeable. The interview with the North Korean defector provided a lot of insight into how life was in North Korea and how she managed to escape. Being able to see NK from the observatory was also an amazing experience, even though it was a bit foggy that day.

The tour picked us up from the location specified at the right time, and off we went. The tour guide, Han, had a dry humor that many will appreciate. He talked about differences between North and South Korea along the way, with a little bit of South Korean propaganda, and did a good job of giving us time to explore at each site for a little bit. I don't think the tour operators have too much choice with the itinerary for the DMZ overall - the ticket building, third tunnel, and observatory were all fine, and on a clear day, the observatory is the highlight as you state across at NK. However, when operators decide to tack on markets or anything else unrelated, it ruins the experience of the tour - there was a stop at an amethyst store that was completely unnecessary and not related to the DMZ at all, and you could see for many was an absolute waste of time. Remove that, and the tour was a great introduction to the DMZ.

Amazing insofar as the things we saw in regards to the relationship to NK. Our tour guide talked so much we never heard from the North Korean defect. Although she probably didn't want to be there anyway. We were brought to a store that ate into the time we could have spent in areas we wanted to spend.

Because the tour is in English, all the friends except me are European and American, but it does not affect the sightseeing. The tour guide SP Hong introduced the whole trip very responsibly and also provided additional knowledge, which made me learn a lot. This time I chose to visit Miss Kim, a North Korean defector. She is a person with a lot of stories and motherly love. We learned about the methods of North Korean defectors to escape the country, and they were not even prepared. The interview with her was the most impressive thing about my entire trip.

What a great experience ! Being interested in world politics and now travelli g to 68th country, always wanted to see the progress made by South Korea and the weired news and caricature of North Korea across the border. Seeing North Korea through bare eyes as well as through Binoculars, it felt nostalgic and exciting. South Koreanhas progressed to a fairly high level and life seemed good, stylishand lovely. South Koreans are obsessed with the North although to extreme negatavisim, wanting reunification. Coming from India and similarly obseesed with Pakistan primarily due terrorism and having seen reunifixation of 2 Germans, really do wish and pray for united democratic Korea. The passage and walking through the 2nd tunnel dug by North was exciting though tough for the age.

DMZ tickets are sold on a first come, first serve basis. There’s no advanced booking system; no guarantee that you’ll get tickets until your tour bus arrives at Imjingak Park on the day and your guide lines up for tickets. As it’s still an active military area, there is a daily cap of visitor tickets sold. We were informed that there was a backup alternative plan should we not be successful in getting tickets. Despite the unpredictable situation, our guide Eva was fantastic — she was cheerful, informative, transparent and she looked after all of us very well. We departed Seoul at 5.30am and were fortunate enough to score tickets for the last tour of the day at 3pm (the super early departure was a good call by the tour company!). It was a very long wait, but it was out of our control - that’s just how the system works. To pass the time, we had a Q&A session on the bus with a North Korean defector, spent time around Imjingak Park, and had lunch at Unification Village. At 3pm, we made it into the DMZ and stopped along Dora Observatory, the 3rd tunnel and Unification Village. My advice for future travellers: prepare to be at the DMZ for most of the day. Depart early during peak tourist seasons, bring water and snacks (maybe a book!), and don’t make evening plans. Even if you’re lucky to get tickets on the day, you won’t know what time you’ll start/end.

(This part is not in korean but: I personaly love History, and what is happening with South and North Korea is almost.. unbelievable. We saw and learnt so much things, Ms. Park didnt hesitate to reply to all of our questions and we are really thanksful for this!) Thank you for today!! We hope that peace will be here one day.

Eva was an amazing tour guide! She answered tons of questions. It was a fascinating tour. I wish the JSA was open to go see that but it is currently closed. Going in the tunnel was probably the best part - big uphill walk. I booked two days before based on hotel recommendation. The tour company had an English line to call. I wish I knew ahead of time that we would have to wait around like 2 hours to get tickets to the DMZ. I would have brought a book. Overall great tour and highly recommend.

Despite the fact that Viator's reservation information was completely wrong—for example, a 540am start time rather than a 730am start time, and a central meeting spot rather than a hotel pick-up—our trip went off without a hitch. Tracy, my Korean friend, was a ray of sunshine who made the vacation enjoyable, pleasant, and emotional. She provided extensive historical context and facts, as well as personal stories of family separation, and she entertained us while keeping us engaged and moving. I totally endorse the endeavor.

Tracy is a nice and lovely guide. The tour itself was fascinating, however it is all a bit rushed. There isn't much time at all of the stops, so taking pictures and walking around at your own pace isn't really an option (although this is something the tour operator can't change, as they rely on another agency for the guide within the DMZ itself). Overall a very interesting and intriguing experience.

The best part of the tour was the tour guide herself Tracey! ???????? She was absolutely amazing, talented narrator, extremely informative and help enrich the amazing experience of going to see the Infiltration tunnels and ofc the main event the Observation Deck, what the heck. Mind blowing to see another world just across the border from us. ???? Well worth visiting.

Such an amazing once in a lifetime experience! Do not miss your chance to see the infamous third tunnel, the DMZ and catch a glimpse of the hermit kingdom from the Dora Observatory. I would highly recommend this well organised, informative tour!

incredible tour and Ron was an excellent tour guide. He gave us a very sincere explanation based on his own experiences and his thiughts about both siuth and north korean was impressive. tour was ok overall there was not much time ti gi inti DMZ and take in Northkorea infrom a distanxe. in face the tour had a few moments when it seemd rushed. the next step is to visit one of covert infiltration tunnel which is a great experience. before being transported back to Seoul's core business area myungdon, I was nervour a bit bit every thing was fine. Orice.. I think its little bit expensive vut it was a great oppurtunity. Very carefully olanned and explained from the begginning.

The sightseeing and tour activities get five stars. The third tunnel, which also has a "museum" that I didn't even have time to see, was a touch short on time, so I only awarded the time allocated for the places 4 stars overall. I like listening to tales as a person. Our tour guide Belle gets a solid four stars. did, but not a lot, tell tales of the battle or the DMZ. I read accounts of a different vacation with Vcosmojin Eva, who shared stories the whole time. The tale of the founding of Hyundai is intriguing. But DMZ is a wonderful thing to partake in if you're in Seoul. I'm in a cloudy environment there. cannot see North Korea clearly " Definitely going to attend again when I go back to Korea! My tour guide, Jinny, was really nice and informative, and the pick-up and transportation were simple and comfortable (I even got a great sleep). Even though I went alone, it was still a wonderful experience. I'm already looking forward to my next trip! I'm grateful for the enjoyable tour.

It was very informative and excellent tour of the DMZ and our tour guide Ron is very knowledgeable. Even though the walk out of the tunnel was hard and it might not suit poeple who are tall, but exploring the 3rd tunnel was so interesting. Looking at North Korea from Dorasan Obervatory was amazing. I was surprised that the distance between two Koreas was so close than my expectation. It was a pity the tension continued and awkward to see the photos of the leaders of South Korea and the Unites States shaking hands with North Korean leader Kim Jeongen at the enterance of the observatory. Fortunately we could see some north Koreans and North Korean soldiers through the telescope. The ice crea made of beans, a local specialty in Tongilchon, is worth a taste. Overall though I enjoyed the tour and would say that it was very value for money.

I am writing this review as I am sitting on the tour bus at the very last shopping stop at the most bs jewelry store visit forces on us by the guide. Beware of inconsiderate tour mates who will hold up bus full of people for 30 minutes so they can get their jewelry resized again and again. The guide will do nothing but to force everyone to wait. Fix this shit.

Value for money!! The tour was awesome! I had a very low expectation because it was only a half-day tour, and there were so many areas they were covering. But the tour actually went so smooth, our tour guide had a very good English as well as right mind-set. Highly recommended for those who feel like experience the hype of only divided nations in the world, South & North Korea.
